Sherrie Kautman My First Time Here...

Hello All! I am ready to give he gift of bears to those in need. I have a question before doing so and I hope someone can answer this for me.. I would like to donate some gift packs for some friends and family as their Christmas gifts. When I donate and put their names on the packs, will I get a receipt for this so I can write a small letter to them for Christmas and include this acknowledgement? Thanks...I look forward to being a part of this great project!!! Continue

Ana Spreading the word

Yesterday I sent an email to all my friends and family, wishing them a Happy Christmas and letting them know that they were not going to get Christmas postcards, instead I was going to send a package with Teddies to OTBC, I also included the link for the site. So I hope that everyone is going to visit the site and give a helping hand in what way they can, either spreading the word or having a more active role. Loads of Love, Ana Continue

Maureen Forbes Sharing a peaceful mornings.

Sunday was a lucky day for me. I managed to speak to Ana on Skype. Sorry our conversation was so short. We had a bad connection. It was lovely to hear your voice again. During our conversation my pig Katy decided to come and visit me in the house. That was the cherry on the top. Her timing is impeccable every time. After our chat on Skype I realised it must be difficult to understand living a basic life. I would like to share some of my experiences with you. This video is my every morning peace… Continue

Maureen Forbes Father Christmas Teddy Bear

Friday Night Market last week and this week has been quite a success. Quite a few sales and donations in cash have been received. A lot of time is spent during the week baking, icing and wrapping the cookies to hand out as an act of kindness. It is well worth it. The reaction of people when you hand them a small gift is amazing. They all hesitate, before taking a gift. The most frquent question is Why? Many ask me first is it for free? This random act of kindness is rather enjoyable. Oh! the smile… Continue

sharon The day after US turkey day

Well, yesterday her was Thanksgiving. Most Americans eat way too much food and then watch Football. It has been a tradition for as long as I can remember. I do not watch football, so I sit and catch up with relatives. We had 35 people at my Mom's yesterday for dinner! Prayers are said before eating, but most do not take time or reflection for how deeply and genuinely grateful we are to have "stuff". I have another practice, for the last 18 years, and it is the ladies in my (recovery) sponsorsh… Continue

Maureen Forbes Sharing the joy of giving

. Who ever thought marketing was easy. This is a new ball game for me. I must admit I am enjoying this networking with people whenever I go out. Oh! It is so challenging. I never realised I could talk so much. I am exhausted when I get home. I have really enjoyed handing out Teddy Bear Cookies it was worth all the effort. I received so many smiles from the children, and a few positive feed backs. I am adding pic’s of biscuits I handed out with a note and web address. Hopefully we get more supp… Continue

Maureen Forbes What a week

I am slipping up on my blogs. Boy! Did I have a busy week? Monday and Tuesday just flew with shopping and all. Wednesday and Thursday I worked at Scarab craft market helping out. Wednesday made arrangement with the school to do carols by candlelight evening on 23rd December. Hoping we get good media coverage and get known. Spoke to Janet from The Green Co. offered my services and in return she has offered to sell any excess vegetables we have. I am so pleased this will encourage our trainees to… Continue

Maureen Forbes Going down memory lane.

Sitting thinking of the past as sometimes we tend to do, my memories started coming back to me. When my sister and I joined 29day gifts my feelings were this is not for me, I can’t write and one of the challenges is blogging for 29days. Oh well as the saying goes in for a penny in for a pound. Colleen hesitated but I knew this is her forte as she enjoys writing. On my second day of blogging my life changed Operation Teddy Bear Care was born. As you all know I live a very quiet, simple life in th… Continue

Maureen Forbes Saturday Pancake day again.

What I thought would be a quite day turned out differently. Is it not amazing how ones mind works. I suppose the visit to the clinic was still floating around, for just out of the blues I decided to approach them for a stand so I can promote OTBC. Well as I say God has always a plan for us, whether we accept it or not. I have been given a prime spot and best of all it is for FREE. Are we not lucky, especially know that the holiday season is upon us. So every one hold thumbs on my aware project.… Continue

Maureen Forbes Friday Oh! What a day. 30th Oct

Well I left this morning with good intentions. First point of call stop was at Post Office to see if parcel arrived. My Lucky day. Thanks Mary it arrived safely. No ways was I going to wait until I got home to peep inside. I am sure by now they watch me at the Post Office to see my reactions. I had a good giggle at myself. Here I am sitting in my little bakkie with a pocketknife cursing all the tape around the box. That alone is a mission but a worthwhile one. Then the oo’s and aar’s start needl… Continue

sharon Halloween in the USA

Today was the day for kids to dress in costume and go door to door for candy! We have had more than our share of Rain here in Woodstock, GA and saw fewer Trick or Treaters than ever. There were the die hard teens seeking candy, the neighbor kids with parents and umbrellas, and a few maybe the doorbell rang 10 times. I believe Halloween was well celebrated by us, last Sat at he dance where all the adults dressed and we raised funds for a Statewide Narcotics Anonymous(sister to Alcoholics Anonymou… Continue

Maureen Forbes Wash day in Kleinkrantz. 29 Oct

Yesterday took me to Klein Krantz squatter camp. I met up with Dean she is a young mother that I came into contact with 6 years ago. She was 19 at the time; she was orphaned at a young age with not education. Needless to say I soon taught her to crochet, knitting and gardening. Her garden is looking beautiful.… Continue

Colleen Friday LIFE IS QUEER WITH ITS TWISTS AND TURNS

I think those words come from a poem? titled “Don’t Quit”. That is not really what this is all about. I just want to share with you how my life took a sharp curve in a different direction than I had planned. Many years ago, more years than I want to remember, in my school days I had to decide whether to do academic subjects or commercial subjects. Now , as I was only in Grade7 I really had no clue what this was all about. In days gone by orientation was accomplished by the whole class attending… Continue

Maureen Forbes He who laughs last

Well as usual the joke is on me. A couple of months ago Colleen was in a panic as she used up all her MB before the month was up. I had a good laugh at her, The tables have turned, she is laughing at me. The worst part of running short is I have so much to tell you all. I once again went to visit Sister Maphoe at the Clinic and have come back in deep thoughts. Enjoy the laugh on me Ou Sis Mary just a quick thank you for the parcel. It finally arrived. I will add pics ect on Sunday,(when MB are b… Continue

sharon Thurs, Oct 29th...Halloween approaches!

I love Halloween! We get to be somebody else for a minute! It also signals my grandson's birthday...I remember walking the streets with my daughter trying to go into labor that afternoon 6 years ago-this coming Monday, she so wanted to give birth on Halloween. It was, and is still her favorite holiday! Here he was as the Earth and her as Mother Nature-she made both costumes when he was one!

sharon October 27th...2009

Today was a very busy day. I had a ton of stuff to do and errands to run. It was very rainy, and I am up blogging at almost one AM. I hope to take my Mom to the doctor tomorrow for a pain shot, her arthritic back is causing her to slow down. She is now taking pain shots every month, and needs a driver to get home. She is one and a half hours away from me and I will spend most of the day over at her house. My husband will be off and can take my duties to pick up my grandson from school, take him… Continue

Colleen Friday added a discussion to the group Penny Jar Crowd
The year 2008 saw the start of a dry season. We managed to keep our vegetable garden growing, despite the thieving porcupine eating our butternuts and pumpkin and the pet pigs breaking through the fence to enjoy fresh organic greens. Now we know the…
